In 2020, Ferhat Bataray arrived in the United States from Turkey through a Work & Travel program. He didn’t speak English. He didn’t know anyone. What he did have was an unshakable dream — to build a life of meaning, to one day run his own business, and to become someone who gives back to the community that gave him a second chance.
His first stop was Wisconsin. For three months, Ferhat worked whatever job he could find — navigating unfamiliar systems, unfamiliar language, unfamiliar everything. When seasonal work dried up, he moved from state to state, looking for stability. But that search only pushed him closer to financial and emotional collapse.
Eventually, a friend urged him to return to Wisconsin. There, Ferhat spent over a year and a half delivering food, enduring one of the hardest seasons of his life. He was isolated, overwhelmed, and constantly worried about money. He missed his family deeply. But in that struggle, something unshakable was forming: resilience.
With that fire still burning, Ferhat made a bold move to California. After trying ride-sharing for a while, he stumbled into cleaning work. At first, he didn’t enjoy it. It wasn’t part of the dream. But life doesn’t wait for perfect conditions — and Ferhat understood that. Instead of waiting for ideal, he leaned into reality. He stopped complaining and decided to do it better than anyone else.
Within a year, Ferhat became one of the most highly rated cleaners in the Bay Area. He earned his clients’ trust not just by working hard — but by caring more. He showed up early. He paid attention to the small things. He listened. He saw cleaning not as a task, but as an opportunity to bring peace and order into people’s lives.
It was during this time that he met Vanessa, a veterinary technician. Ferhat had just adopted a dog, and Vanessa helped him learn how to care for it. Their friendship quickly turned into something deeper. Soon, they were living together — and eventually, they got married. She became his greatest supporter, and he finally had someone who believed in his vision as much as he did.
With her encouragement, Ferhat poured everything into launching SanCrew Cleaning Services. Every dollar he had went into building it — no shortcuts, no compromises. Even the name was chosen with intention:
“San” for saintly care. “Crew” for collective strength.

But Ferhat knew something was missing — technology. He wanted to create a seamless online experience, with transparent pricing, customizable options, and detailed profiles. He tried learning web design on his own — first WordPress, then Wix. But the vision demanded more than DIY tools could offer.
That’s when he met Nurullah Islamoglu.
Nurullah had also come to the U.S. from Turkey five years earlier, with a degree in software engineering. Like Ferhat, he arrived full of hope — only to learn that the road would be longer and harder than he imagined. His diploma didn’t transfer. He took on survival jobs. He moved through nearly 10 states, doing whatever it took to stay afloat. All the while, the dream of working in tech stayed alive in his heart.
Eventually, he landed in San Francisco — and crossed paths with Ferhat. When Ferhat shared the vision behind SanCrew, something clicked for both of them. It wasn’t just a cleaning company. It was a platform — one that could be powered by software, data, and automation. Nurullah joined as a partner, bringing the tech expertise Ferhat needed — and finally putting his engineering skills to work in something he believed in.
